In this paper I have two main aims. My first aim is to introduce the notion of bounded emotionality. This analogue that rationality in behavioural economics. Indispensable Norms in Our Society ?
In his Heidelberg University lecture of 1992, the author uses an all-too prescient torture scenario to exam the function and putative indispensability of norms in modern society. In the exceptional case, recourse to the »normativity of norms« or to »values« proves to be untenable because all norms and values reveal themselves to be undecidable. Viewed from within the legal systems, the validity...
متن کاملAlternative approaches to obtain t-norms and t-conorms on bounded lattices
Triangular norms in the study of probabilistic metric spaces as a special kind of associative functions defined on the unit interval. These functions have found applications in many areas since then. In this study, we present new methods for constructing triangular norms and triangular conorms on an arbitrary bounded lattice under some constraints. Also, we give some illustrative examples for t...
متن کاملSemidefinite Programs for Completely Bounded Norms
The completely bounded trace and spectral norms in finite dimensions are shown to be expressible by semidefinite programs. This provides an efficient method by which these norms may be both calculated and verified, and gives alternate proofs of some known facts about them.
متن کاملMinding our manners: Accounting as social norms
The accounting standardization project, kicked off by the passage of US securities laws in the 1930s, has steadily gained momentum over seven decades. Today, written standards dominate accounting thought, practice, regulation, instruction, even research. Generally accepted accounting principles—originally a mere description in its plain English meaning—have since been capitalized into a proper ...
متن کاملSimpler semidefinite programs for completely bounded norms
The completely bounded trace and spectral norms, for finite-dimensional spaces, are known to be efficiently expressible by semidefinite programs (J. Watrous, Theory of Computing 5: 11, 2009). This paper presents two new, and arguably simpler, semidefinite programming formulations of these norms.
